Atom, visiting a lakeside hotel with the Professor, rescues a boy from Alsoa 12 during a stormy night. However, the boy is kidnapped by someone. Soon, a flying saucer from Alsoa 12, which was supposed to have exploded, appears, demanding Earth's water and beginning to absorb the lake water and snow from the mountains...
The original manga is a short story "The Plant Man" published in the January 1961 New Year's special issue of the monthly "Shonen" magazine. After the anime episode aired, it was included in Kappa Comics Volume 5, published in May 1964. In the manga, Atom is on a ski trip with Tamao, Shibugaki, and five other classmates, including Kenichi.

The newspaper that Professor Ochanomizu is reading is dated April 9, 20X1, and states in English that "Professor Ochanomizu has been nominated for the Nobel Prize in Science."
Tamao and Shibugaki appear for the first time as Atom's friends. In the anime, there are no scenes depicting Atom attending a human school, but the two seem to be classmates at Ochanomizu Elementary School.
In this episode, Tezuka was in charge of the original drawings for the opening scene where Atom saves a bird's nest.
