人工太陽
The Artificial Sun
Viewer Rating: 32.5%.
The international villain, Kin Sankaku, attacked passenger ships and aircraft with his artificial sun. British detective Holmespun, who visited Japan at the request of the Federal Police Bureau, teams up with Atom to investigate. However, the two, along with Dr. Ochanomizu, are captured by Kin Sankaku's henchmen.
The original manga was serialized in the December 1959 issue (supplement) to the February 1960 issue of the monthly magazine "Shonen" as "The Tale of Fire Pot Island." In the A6-sized paperback volume 8 published in July 1960, the title was changed to "The Tale of the Artificial Sun."

In the manga, Holmespun was a robot-hating detective commissioned by the Federal Police Bureau, a master of disguise with artificial arms, legs, and torso except for his head. In the anime, he is simply depicted as a robot-hating master of disguise.
In the manga, his head is also shot by Kin Sankaku, and he eventually becomes a complete robot, but in the anime, the ending does not involve him being shot.
In the first draft of the storyboard, it seems that the episode ended with Atom destroying the artificial sun and shaking hands with Holmespun. In the broadcast version, a scene of the destruction of the demon statue (original artwork by Mr. Ishii) and a scene of Atom fighting Kin Sankaku (original artwork by Mr. Tezuka) were added.
