In the year of 1999, a young boy named Astor Boynton, the son of the director of the Ministry of Science, died as the result of a car crash.
Distraught, Dr. Boynton made the decision to revive his son as a robot. This robot would not have Tobio's memories, but it would be made in the image of the deceased boy.
The robot took about 1 year to complete, and in 2000, Astro Boy was born! But he hadn't quite earned that name yet. No, to Dr. Boynton, this was the reincarnation of his very own Astor Boynton.
Dr. Boynton would spend the next few years of his life teaching and raising the new robot Astor. Eventually, Dr. Boynton came to a realization. His son was not growing.
Distraught by this realization, he started going into denial. "Surely you can grow so much as one single solitary inch!" but no matter what, Astor could not grow. He was not human, after all. Only a robot.
In a fit of rage, Dr. Boynton sold his robot son to the Robot Circus lead by ring leader Mr. Cacciatore. There, he would be renamed to "Astro Boy" and made to fight his fellow performer robots in gladiator-like battles.
Upset by the sight, the new head of the Ministry of Science, Dr. Packidermus J. Elefun, adopts Astro Boy after rights for robots equal to humans are put into law, which delegitimizes the robot circus and causes it to shut down, resulting in Mr. Cacciatore being put out of a job.
From here on, Astor Boynton officially becomes Astro Boy! Saving lives from any form of danger they may come under. Whether they're humans, aliens, or even his fellow robots, Astro Boy will put a stop to those carrying out evil.
Astro Boy would face many villains. Such as Don Tay's infernal machine: Ferno. Don Tay's ancestors were enslaved and oppressed by colonizers. Seeking revenge, he builds a robot named Ferno to take revenge by generally causing chaos and destruction. Don Tay first signs Ferno up for a robot fighting competition, where he destroys robots to the degree that Astro Boy feels the need to get involved. The two duke it out, Ferno revealing he can fly using jets which come out of his ears. Don Tay calls for Ferno to stop and the pair return home.
Once home, Ferno begins tunneling through the earth at Don Tay's command. His plan? To direct the lava flow of an inactive Volcano in Mexico, and cause it to erupt. His plan is successful. However, unfortunately for him, Astro Boy happened to be at Mexico with his family on vacation. Hearing the news of the volcano's eruption, Astro Boy flies into action! He soon discovers Ferno, accompanied by Don Tay. Astro Boy and Ferno duke it out. Ferno's body begins to glow, becoming a fierce white. His body had begun emitting an intense heat. With his artificial skin beginning to melt, Astro Boy used all the strength he could muster to deliver a powerful blow to Ferno, which proves fruitful as Ferno falls to pieces onto the ground.
By now, the lava flow has endangered Don Tay. Astro Boy swoops in and rescues the roboticist. Afterward, Astro Boy then causes a collapse on the side of a mountain, the debris falling into the valley and diverting the lava's flow away from a nearby town. The volcano still erupting, Astro Boy has the idea to use a freezing bomb. Before he heads off to retrieve one, he divulges his plan to Don Tay, who, grateful for Astro Boy saving him, installs a chip he says will help Astro Boy. Astro Boy returns with the freezing bomb, dropping it into the volcano. His plan succeeds, but Astro Boy himself freezes over. Suddenly, his body began to glow as his body emitted an intense heat! The ice on his body melts away and Astro Boy flies off. He meets again with Don Tay, thanking him and handing him the chip he installed in Astro Boy before. Don Tay reveals the chip was Ferno's, and is glad that something good came from Ferno in the end.
For Astro Boy's birthday, Dr. Elefun would gift Astro Boy his very own sister: Astro Girl. Astro Girl would get herself into quite a lot of trouble. She was built with the same amount of strength as Astro Boy: 100,000 horsepower.
But following her creation, Astro Girl would discover a sport called robotting where robots fight until one is destroyed. She'd join the sport, to her brother's dismay. Astro Girl begins wishing she could be in to places at once, one staying at home while the other goes robotting. A scientist soon makes himself known, telling Astro Girl he can modify her to be at two places at once. Sounding too good to be true, Astro Girl decided to go with this scientist behind her brother's back and get modified.
When she wakes up in her bed the next morning, she's able to split in two! Unbeknownst to her, however, this halves her strength. One Astro Girl stays home and the other goes robotting as planned, but things quickly go awry as Astro Girl is losing her robotting match. Astro Boy bursts into the ring to save his sister, but he's too late. Half of Astro Girl died that day, and Astro Girl has only had 50,000 horsepower ever since.
On a scheduled cleanup for the Ministry of Science, a prototype of Astro Boy is accidentally dumped. Awaking in the dump low on energy, the prototype starts to wander in search of the Ministry of Science.
Dr. Elefun explains the situation to Astro Boy, telling him about the robot prototype named Jetto. Astro Boy immediately sets out to find his brother.
Meanwhile, Jetto meets a scientist who refuels Jetto. The scientist then tells Jetto to fight one of his robots. Feeling like he was in debt to the scientist, Jetto reluctantly agrees.
Jetto quite easily dispatches the robot, having the same strength as his brother. The scientist then gives Jetto a present, telling Jetto to give it to his brother Astro Boy. Jetto agrees and sets off. Unbeknownst to Jetto, the present contained a bomb!
While searching for his brother, Jetto sees a robot attacking a lady in a cake shop. Jetto jumps into action, putting a stop to the robot. It's revealed the robot prints counterfeit money, and was created by the very scientist who refueled Jetto.
The robot Jetto put a stop too makes a break for it. But Jetto makes chase. Inspector Gumshoe and Astro Boy stop at the cake shop soon after to ask about Jetto. The cake shop lady confirms he saw him, and points them in the right direction.
Jetto follows the robot into a trap! Jetto fights several of the scientist's robots, coming out victorious. Astro Boy and Gumshoe soon arrive, arresting the scientist. Jetto gives Astro Boy the present, and he opens it to reveal... a cake? The scientist is confounded, it should have been a bomb! Then Jetto has a realization, he must have gotten it mixed up with a box from the cake shop when he was fighting that robot!
Astro Boy and Jetto rush to the cake shop, arriving just in time to retrieve the present before the cake shop lady was about to open it.
