Colosso
Colosso, an incomplete planetary development robot, goes haywire and breaks out of the Ministry of Science. He is found by a gang who use him to commit several acts of thievery. Astro Boy, hot on their trail, is framed for one of these acts.
The original manga's 'Franken' chapter ran in Shonen magazine from November 1952 to October 1952 and was reprinted in the first A5 volume released June 1956. The anime's opening uses the 'Atom's Parents' chapter from the April 1952 issue of Shonen, reprinted in the third A5 volume from October 1958.

In the manga, an unfinished Franken is controlled by a gang posing as the R.R. Alliance, a robot liberation group.
Rintaro is based on Shigeyuki Hayashi, who became a key animator from episode one.
The newspaper announcing the gang's arrest is dated January 8, 2002.
