Running low on energy, Atom wakes up on a rocky mountain and is saved by the bandit Alibaba, who gives him the energy of a robot horse. Atom and his friend, Smith, decide to carry out an academic survey of the ruins. However, it was actually Smith who drained Atom's energy and kidnapped him...
The original manga was a standalone story in the July 1955 issue of the monthly Shonen magazine and was titled "The Mysterious Frozen Man." This was later changed to "The Frozen Man" in the A5-sized second volume, published May 1957. The manga depicts Atom in Mexico, assisting archaeologist Monsieur Ampere with an archaeological dig at the Inca pyramids alongside Lamp and others. The anime version differs; Atom is abducted to Babylonia after being drained of energy while asleep. Rescued by Alibaba (in disguise), Atom repays the favor by participating in Smith's dig, which veers into looting.
